The primary understanding of a smart city may differ from region to region depending on the socio political framework of a society within a country further changing as it trickles down to cities and areas within cities. Similarly as a Smart City may have a unique meaning and challenges in India as compared to other nations.

As Urban planners we are aiming to develop and redevelop the entire urban eco-system, which is represented by the four pillars of comprehensive development— institutional, physical, social and economic infrastructure. However, your concern is very genuine but the idea of a smart city is based on ecologically sustainable development and reduce the heat or carbon imprints on nature. We are trying to integrate “Information & Communication Technology (ICT)” and “Internet of Things (IoT)” within the existing formwork of a city by redeveloping new compatible infrastructure to support ICT & IoT.
